Fellowship Information
APPLICATION EVALUATION
The following guidelines and instructions will aid candidates in completion of the application and should be read thoroughly prior to beginning the application.
Application Profile
Provide your name and contact information.
Candidate Statement
Provide a statement about your qualifications for the fellowship and your career goals, not to exceed 1,000 words. Target your statement specifically for the fellowship program area to which you are applying. A generic statement submitted for multiple fellowship program areas will weaken the competitiveness of your application. The Candidate Statement must address each of the following points:
- Reason for applying for the NMSFP
- Qualifications-a summary of your background and expertise-what you can being to the fellowship
- Areas of interest-outline the STEM areas that interest you the most
- Career goals-state your goals following the fellowship and into the future and how you envision the fellowship supporting these goals
Extra-curricular Activities Statement
In 500 words, provide brief examples of your activities beyond the lab, classroom, or office, and your role and accomplishments in those efforts. These might include activities with community groups, professional or academic associations, nonprofit organizations, outreach, etc.
References: Three (3) recommendation letters are required. Do not submit additional letters. They will not be accepted. You are responsible for ensuring that three letters are submitted by the deadline. Applications with fewer than three (3) letters of recommendation will not be considered.
Letters of recommendation are an essential and important component of the application. They must be from individuals who can comment on your academic competence and other qualities and interests that make you especially qualified to serve as a fellow. Select your references carefully.
